Where To Go Hunting
Nelson/Tasman and the nearby areas of Marlborough, Northern West Coast and Canterbury hold Red Deer, Fallow Deer, Chamois, Goats, Pigs and the odd Tahr in some of the most beautiful mountain ranges and native bush filled valleys in New Zealand.
With huge areas of public land there is a lifetime of hunting available for all. The areas where you can hunt on public land are shown on the DOC map by selecting "Hunting areas" under the "DOC features" tab.
DOC also provide a recreation activity finder in their website which include hunting. This provides a searchable function for species, dogs allowed, area etc. There is a wealth of knowledge here including what animals you are likely to find, huts and access points.
Walking Access Maps NZ (WAMS) also provides public access maps, property information and much more.
Remember to follow firearm rules and have the valid permits required to hunt on public land.
